Designing Baby & Toddler Clothes as Parents First, Store Owners Second

Designing Baby & Toddler Clothes as Parents First, Store Owners Second

Before we became parents, we looked at baby clothes as products.
Now, as parents, we look at them as *investments* in everyday life.

Our daughter completely changed how we see baby clothing. Suddenly it wasn’t about the “cutest” outfit for just one photo — it was about the leggings & top she could wear again, and again.

That’s when our mindset shifted:

We stopped asking: “Will this sell?”
And started asking: “Would we spend our own money on this, over and over again?”

Why Affordability Became Non‑Negotiable

Once you have a baby, you realise quickly: everything adds up.

Nappies, wipes, bottles, creams, clothes for every stage, sudden size jumps — it’s a lot. We felt that ourselves, and it hit us:

- Parents don’t just need cute, they need sensible.
- They don’t just need cheap, they need smart value.
- They don’t want to keep re‑buying the same basics every few weeks.

So when we choose or design products now, affordability isn’t just a price tag. It’s a promise that:

- You’re not paying extra just for a label.
- You’re not buying something that looks lovely for one wear and then lives in a drawer.
- You’re getting everyday essentials that can keep up with real life.

Everyday Wear: The Real MVPs of Baby Clothing

Special occasion outfits are fun — and we do love them — but if we’re honest, they’re not what you use the most.

What gets worn on repeat are:

- Sleepsuits
- Bodysuits/vests
- Leggings / joggers
- Simple tops
- Zip-up hoodies or cardigans

These are the pieces that end up in the wash basket every single day. That’s where we put most of our focus now.

When we’re looking at an item and deciding whether to stock it or design it for our new range, our questions are:

1. Will a baby be comfortable in this all day?
2. Can this be worn over and over again, not just once for a photo?
3. Can it be mixed and matched easily with other pieces?
4. Will parents feel they got their money’s worth from it?

If the answer isn’t a clear “yes” to all four, we don’t bring it in.

Value = Cost Per Wear, Not Just Cost on the Tag

One of the biggest shifts for us as parents was how we thought about value, how much wear will our daughter get out of this?

So now we think in terms of cost per wear, not just the price on the tag.

When we select or choose a design, we ask:

  • Is this something parents will reach for again and again?
  • Will it still look good after multiple washes?
  • Does it work for both “at home” days and “pop out to the shops” days?

We love pieces that can be:

  • Worn to nap, play, and go out.
  • Passed down to a sibling, cousin, or friend when your baby outgrows it.
  • Look smart & timeless

That’s real value. That’s where the money you spend actually stretches.

Why “Everyday Wear That Lasts” Matters So Much

We realised something really simple once we were up to our ears in laundry:

The clothes you use most are the ones that need to hold up best.

It’s not about outfits surviving one family photoshoot — it’s about surviving:

  • Dribbles and milk spills
  • Food stains (hello, weaning!)
  • Crawling on the floor
  • Being tugged on and off multiple times a day
  • Constant washing and drying

So while we don’t go full “technical” on fabrics, we absolutely do care about how things wash and wear. We test pieces on our own little one and only keep the ones that:

  • Don’t lose shape after a few washes
  • Don’t go rough and scratchy
  • Don’t fade to a dull, tired version of what they once were

Because if you have to replace basics every month, they’re not really affordable — they’re just cheap in the short term and costly in the long run.

Little Design Details That Save Parents Money

We also think about the small, practical details that quietly add value:

  • Simple, timeless designs so an item doesn’t feel “out of trend” in a few months and can be reused for baby number two (or three!).
  • Room to grow slightly generous fits or designs that work a little longer mean you get more months out of each size.

Our Promise as Fellow Parents

At the heart of it, our promise is simple:

  • We won’t sell you things we wouldn’t put our own child in.
  • We won’t push outfits that look great on a hanger but don’t survive real life.
  • We’ll focus on everyday wear that feels good, looks cute, and lasts

We’re parents too. We know what it’s like to do the late‑night online browse thinking,
“Do I really need this?”
“Will they even wear it?”
“Is this worth the money?”

That’s the voice we listen to when we choose what to offer you.

Instead of encouraging parents to buy more, more, more, we actually love the idea of a small but hardworking wardrobe.

If we’ve done our job right, you’ll feel like:

  • You got real value from what you spent.
  • You didn’t waste money on “just for show” clothing.
  • Everyday life with your baby feels that little bit easier.
